There's something magical about how it can streamline the writing process, transforming a chaotic mess of thoughts into a polished piece of content.
(If we had this
back in the day, we wouldn't have had to beg editors to write special reports to sell their products--and then wait weeks to get them!)
With just a few clicks of a mouse, AI can:
Organize your thoughts: AI tools are excellent at structuring content, ensuring that your ideas flow logically from one to the next.
Clean up typos: Say goodbye to those pesky spelling and grammar errors. AI can spot and correct them in a blink.
Apply best practices: AI can give your writing that professional sheen, ensuring it adheres to SEO guidelines, readability standards, and other best practices in copywriting.
However, there's a significant caveat to the magic of AI in writing:
AI cannot generate real ideas that resonate with real people.
At its core, AI is a tool designed to process and manipulate data. It can take your content to the next level in
terms of presentation, but it lacks the human essence needed to create truly engaging and impactful messages.
Here's why:
Emotional Connection: AI does not have emotions or lived experiences. It can mimic emotional language based on patterns it has learned, but it can't truly feel or convey the depth of human
emotion. This emotional appeal is crucial in moving readers to action, whether it’s signing up for a newsletter, making a purchase, or supporting a cause. It would never have been able to write my Great Retirement Betrayal or any of my other mega winners.
Authenticity and Relatability: The human touch in writing comes from personal stories, unique perspectives, and the ability to connect on a
personal level. AI can simulate this to some extent, but there's a limit to how 'human' its output can be. Readers can often sense when content lacks this genuine touch, which might make them less likely to engage. It is missing the human touch or voice...which is why publishers can easily identify a Doug D'Anna promotion.
Innovation and Creativity: While AI can generate content based on existing data,
it doesn't invent or innovate in the truest sense. It remixes what's already known. The spark of creativity, the 'eureka' moment where a new idea is born from nothing, remains a uniquely human trait.
A great example is how I reposition a subscription as a membership and turn that into a 10-year control
In the era of AI-driven copywriting, where tools like ChatGPT,
Grok, and Gemini are becoming ubiquitous, your survival and success hinge on leveraging these technologies while still infusing your work with that irreplaceable human element:
My recommendation AI as a tool, not a crutch:
Let AI handle the heavy lifting of editing, formatting, and even suggesting content structures,
but keep the creative process sacred.
Embrace your unique voice: Your personal experiences, your unique voice, and your perspective are what set you apart. These are elements AI can't replicate.
Connect emotionally: Spend time crafting narratives or anecdotes that resonate emotionally. This could be through humor, empathy, or shared human experiences.
Iterate with human feedback: Use your audience's feedback to refine your message. Human interaction provides insights that AI can't predict or simulate.
The bottom line here is this:
While AI can be an incredible asset in organizing, refining, and optimizing your content, it's the human touch that
will ultimately determine whether your content thrives or merely survives.
In the dance between technology and creativity, ensure you lead with humanity to make your mark in this AI-enhanced world of writing.
