Are you tired of writing copy that just doesn’t convert?
If so, this letter is for you.
Let me explain...
I’ve been where you are. Early in my career, I wrote copy that didn’t sell—until I figured out what actually works.
As you know,..
I’ve been in the copywriting industry for over 38 years, and my words have generated over $100 million in sales for my clients.
But even more rewarding, I’ve helped hundreds of others transform into successful copywriters themselves through my coaching and instructional materials.
So, I get it.
I sent you this letter because I get DMs every single day from people who follow me on Twitter, asking the same question: "Why isn’t my copy selling?"
I can only help so much through an email, but here’s what I’m going to do. I’m going to give you the real answers. This might be a reality check, but if
you want to write high-converting copy and actually make money, it’s time to get serious.
Five Ways My Million-Dollar Copywriting Formula Will Help You
1. When You Fuse Winning Ideas Together, You Can’t Lose
Let me ask you this: how often are you trying to come up with
completely new ideas for your copy?
I used to think that too. The truth? You don’t need to reinvent the wheel every time.
The reason is simple:
The most successful copy often blends ideas from multiple winning campaigns. It’s about combining what already works and putting your unique spin on
it.
Here’s how I did it, and how you can too:
- Study Successful Campaigns: Spend time analyzing what’s crushing it in your industry.
- Identify Key Elements: Look for recurring hooks, themes, or structures.
- Create a Swipe File: Collect these gems for future reference. You’ll thank yourself later. (Like my
"$100 Million Copywriting Formula Swipe File."
- Practice Fusion: Mix and match. Take the headline from one campaign, the offer from another, and watch the magic happen.
- Test and Refine: Use your fused ideas in your own copy, and always test for results.
2. Develop a Systematic Approach
Have you ever sat down to write and felt all
over the place? Yeah, me too.
A lot of copywriters wing it, and that’s why they end up with inconsistent results. The pros have a system that keeps them efficient and effective.
Why does it matter?
A systematic approach means you’re not reinventing the wheel every time you sit down to write.
Instead, you’re creating great copy consistently.
Here’s how:
- Create a Routine: Block off specific times for research, writing, and editing. No distractions.
- Use Templates: Develop frameworks for different types of copy (emails, landing pages, etc.). It’s like having a cheat sheet that you’ll find in my Million-Dollar Copywriting
Formula Swipe Files
- Follow a Checklist: A good piece of copy has key elements that shouldn’t be overlooked. Make a list, and check it every time.
- Time Yourself: Ever heard of the Pomodoro technique? Use it. Time your writing sessions, take breaks, and stay fresh.
- Review and Improve: Reflect on your process every month. What’s working? What’s not? Tweak it.
3. Master the Art
of Research
Here’s where a lot of copywriters drop the ball: research.
If your copy isn’t resonating with your audience, chances are it’s because you didn’t do your homework.
Why is this important? You need to know your product, your market, and your audience inside and out. Otherwise, you’re
just guessing.
So, what’s the process?
- Dive Deep into Your Product: Know every feature, every benefit, and every pain point your product solves.
- Understand Your Audience: Build detailed buyer personas and really get into their heads.
- Study Your Competitors: What’s working for them? What’s not? Learn from
both.
- Use Multiple Sources: Pull from reviews, surveys, interviews—don’t just rely on one source.
- Organize Everything: I keep my research in a digital folder system that’s easy to reference at a moment’s notice.
This is how I beat the control over and over and over.
4. Focus on Benefits, Not Just Features
One of the biggest mistakes I see is copy that focuses on what a product is rather than what it does. Remember, your customer doesn’t care about the details—they care about how it’ll change their life.
Why?
Customers buy benefits, not features. If you can show them how their life will improve with your product, you’ve got
them.
How to shift your focus:
- List All Features: Write down every feature, no matter how small. Then write how it helps your reader.
- Ask "So What?": For each feature, ask yourself why it matters to your audience.
- Paint a Picture: Use storytelling to help your customer imagine what their life will look like
with your product.
- Use Their Language: Speak in the same way your customers do—check reviews and social media for how they describe their pain points.
- Prioritize: Focus your copy on the benefits that resonate the most with your audience.
5. Master the Call-to-Action
Okay, this one is a biggie: your call-to-action.
I’ve seen great copy fail because the CTA was weak. If you’re not telling people exactly what to do—and giving them a reason to do it now—they won’t take action.
Why? Without a strong, clear CTA, even the best copy won’t convert.
Here’s how to fix that:
- Be Specific: Tell them
exactly what you want them to do. Don’t be vague.
- Create Urgency: Use time-sensitive language or scarcity to push immediate action.
- Make It Stand Out: Use bold colors or big fonts. Don’t be subtle.
- Use Action Words: Words like "Get," "Join," or "Download" are powerful triggers.
- Reduce Risk: Offer guarantees or free trials to make the decision feel safer.
