With competition coming from everywhere, you must offer something different, as AI takes over the copywriting space.
Make no mistake, it will make 90% of those reading this obsolete.
But if you follow the simple path I lay out for you here, you will be one of the 10% that survives the dramatic changes ahead.
If this is the first time you are reading my post, then buckle
up.
I'm Doug D'Anna, one of the top copywriters for the publishing business over the past 30 years. I started with direct mail, then email, then HTML emails, landing pages, and video sales letters.
I have seen the industry continue to be turned upside down.
Yet, I have continued to emerge as the go-to source from all the top publishers because I was able to see the trends early and then connect the dots to the opportunities that others could not see.
Today, we are not at the crossroads, as AI takes over the copywriting space.
The big money you thought you would be making is now being made by those with lesser ability
whose talent is only knowing which question to ask AI to get it to write something for you.
Here's the thing:
AI can only do what you ask it to do.
It can't just come up with ideas on its own.
That brings me to you.
As I have learned over the years, the reason people will hire you is for your ideas. Ideas have been my stock in trade for over 30 years.
If you want to survive and prosper in the years ahead, you need to identify opportunities and bring new ideas to the table.
That is what will set you apart from others.
Your ability to identify and pitch new ideas to your clients, ideas they are not getting on their own by asking ChatGPT to create them for you.
The only way you can come up with great ideas is to continually read, review, and write. You can't
do it by looking into a black computer screen. It comes from being in the moment, grinding.
Not asking AI for ideas. The ones it can come up with are like those you might hear from an eighth grader.
The fact is:
Chat-GPT and other AI's simply lack the nuanced understanding of human emotions and experiences. Like when you don't get hired for a job. It does not understand your hurt.
It can't replicate Tony Robbins or Vince Lombardi or offer the spark of inspiration top your clients or readers.
Only you can do that from devouring books,
films, art, and great copy, of course.
This is where unique ideas are born. This is where you can shine.
Not by having a computer regurgitating idea, but gaining true understanding of human experience.
That comes to every part of the process of finding and selling yourself as copywriter. People will hire you for
what you bring to the table, not what CHAT-GPT brings to the table. If that was the case, why would they ever hire you?
They wouldn't.
If you agree with what I've said, your next step is quite simple--to be the idea generator you clients are looking for. One that brings your unique perspective and experience to bear.
This is what has worked for me over my 38-year career.
I wish the same for you, too.
All good wishes,
Doug D'Anna
P.S. As a copywriter coach, my ultimate goal to help you is to
write with mindfulness and joy in your heart, so that you will grow in your profession.
This is how Steve Kerr was able to coach the Golden State Warriors to four championships.
His goal was to impart to his players to play with joy, mindfulness, compassion, and competition in their hearts—all for the love of the game.
This is how I have approached my work for 30 years, with joy, mindfulness, and the attitude that “I will not be denied in the pursuit of my goals.”
As a seasoned direct response copywriter, Doug has created hundreds of profitable direct mail packages, emails, and video sales letters for the world's largest specialized information publishers—generating over $100 million in direct sales.
