Answers to Your Most Pressing Questions
While I can’t possibly answer everyone’s questions, I Here are some of the most common questions and my responses, which I hope will help you as much as they did the original askers:
I’m just starting out. How do I build my confidence and get clients to take me seriously?
— J.M.
Great question! The biggest hurdle for new copywriters is often overcoming self-doubt. Here's my advice:
1. Start with small wins: Begin by writing
for smaller clients or even non-profits. The goal is to build a portfolio and gain confidence.
2. Showcase your knowledge: Even if you lack experience, demonstrate your understanding of copywriting principles. Write blog posts, share insights on LinkedIn, and engage in copywriting forums.
3. Set clear expectations: Be honest about your
experience level but emphasize your dedication and willingness to learn. Many clients appreciate transparency and a strong work ethic.
Remember, confidence grows with experience. Every project you complete will build your credibility and self-assurance.

I'm struggling to come up with compelling headlines. Any tips?
— A.R.
Creating headlines that grab attention is a skill every copywriter must master. Here are a few tips:
1. Focus on the benefit: What does
the reader get? Make it clear and compelling.
2. Use numbers and specifics: People love lists and specific results, e.g., "7 Secrets to Writing Headlines That Convert."
3. Test and refine: Don’t settle for the first headline. Write several and test which one resonates most with your
audience.
A great headline is often the difference between a successful campaign and a mediocre one.

Is long copy really better than short copy?
— P.L.
The age-old debate!
Here's my take:
To me Long copy almost always wins because it allows you to fully develop the argument, address objections, and showcase benefits.
However, the key is to keep it engaging. Long copy should feel short to the reader because it's interesting and relevant.
But don’t just take my word for it. The best approach is to test both and see what works best for your audience.

I'm worried about charging too much and scaring away potential clients. How do I price my services?
— T.H.
Pricing can be tricky, especially when you're starting out. Here’s a simple formula:
1. Calculate your ideal annual income: Divide it by the number of weeks
you want to work and the number of projects you can realistically handle each week.
2. Factor in your value: Consider the ROI your copy can bring to clients. If you're confident your copy can generate significant revenue, don't hesitate to charge accordingly.
3. Know what
others are charging for the same thing. You will then see a range of pricing options. That way you will know what the market will bear.
The most important thing is to value your work. Remember, the right clients will pay for quality.
