If I’ve said this once, I’ve said it a million times: I wasn’t always the best copywriter. I just knew what to write about, who to follow up with, and how to sell myself.
And my approach could be summed up in three little words: whatever it takes.
You see,
it’s not always about talent—it's about tenacity, innovation, and a willingness to go above and beyond to achieve your goals.
When you adopt this mindset, you will become an unstoppable force in whatever niche you choose. You will land high-profile clients, securing lucrative assignments, and cash-rich coaching contracts.
How to do it?
- You won’t wait for opportunities to come knocking; you will go get them.
- You’ll leverage unconventional strategies to capture attention and win clients.
- You’ll create social media campaigns or organize attention-grabbing events.
In other words, you will make a splash and get noticed.
You will never go into a sales situation winging it.
You will write a damn sales script, memorize it to perfection, and use it. All using the same copywriting skills you use on paper in person.
If you write them the way I did, your script will overcome objections, build
rapport, and close deals. You will find that by employing this approach, it will be like taking candy from a baby.
Here's the deal...
Winning clients isn’t the end game—it’s just the beginning of building a long-standing relationship. During my career, I have built long-term relationships with marketers that have lasted over 30
years.
The only, and the only way you will do this, is to invest your time understanding their needs and the projects at hand.
AND, most of all, by delivering results. Not some of the time or part of the time, but all of the time.
By doing
this, you will not only provide value but also foster trust. This is how I became a trusted partner and advisor with three of the largest publishing companies in my niche.
Follow my lead here, and you, too, will build lasting relationships that will make you a force to be reckoned with.
The bottom line
here is this:
In a profession where success is measured by results, you must prove over and over that you are willing to do whatever it takes to win.
When you do this, with relentless determination, there's no limit to what you can achieve.
This, my friends, is the model of the Copywriter That Can’t Stop Winning.
This was my model.
I want it to be your model.
By the way...
While not every ad I wrote was a winner, every relationship I built was one.
Here's how I did it.
By creating irresistible offers that provide immense value to my clients. Whether it's a direct mail package, email campaign, or video sales letter, they always received a well-thought-out and researched promotion that would move
readers to buy.
AND—I always went the extra mile.
Let me explain...
So while my competitors would only deliver one promotional package, I would deliver them two to test. So in a split-run test, I would have two horses in the race instead of one—increasing my
odds of winning from 50/50 to 66/33.
Of course, none of this expertise happened overnight.
When I started out, I would attend industry events, conferences, and networking meetups. I got a hold of the member list and started smiling and dialing, forging connections with potential clients, collaborators, and mentors.
When you hear someone say, your net worth is your network, it’s true—I’ve lived it!
One more thing.
Don’t think that my rise was a cakewalk. I heard no more than I ever heard yes. But the yeses I got were worth gold!
If you can see these setbacks as an opportunity to learn and grow, you will continue to grow in your career and in confidence in yourself.
If you can follow my approach, you will stand out as a shining example of what it means to do whatever it takes to win.
By adopting a winning mindset and not
letting anything get in the way of getting what you want, YOU will become the Copywriter That Can’t Stop Winning.
All good wishes,
DD
P.S. I don’t know where you are in your copywriting career, but I do know this:
You may be just one pitch from nailing down a client for life.
If you’re looking for a shortcut, I’d like to offer you a copy of my "The Ultimate Pitch Letter Framework." It includes the same simple pitch outline
I used to win clients and jobs.
