One of the greatest blessings of writing in the financial sector is learning how to invest and make money from some of the greatest investors on the planet.
As a result, I not only have learned timeless principles that transcend industries and disciplines but also know how to apply them to my copywriting
business.
One such lesson, often attributed to legendary investor Warren Buffett, is the concept of building a moat around your business that would keep your
competitors at bay.
Just like medieval times, the moat would not keep the enemies at bay but make it economically impossible for my clients to hire my
competitors.
Using Buffett's model, I came up with a fee structure with a royalty system. Unlike other writers who only charged a flat fee, I charged a flat fee for my copywriting services, PLUS with a royalty for ongoing revisions and updates.
Here’s why it worked:
most writers would not include updates or revisions. They would want to be paid for them. That was stupid thinking.
By offering updates and revisions, I ensured that their copy remained fresh and effective over time.
By offering unlimited updates for a fixed royalty, I effectively
eliminated the need for clients to hire additional writers to test against me.
This ensured that I remained the go-to choice for copywriting needs, solidifying my position in the market and making it incredibly difficult for competitors to encroach on my territory.
As a result of this strategy, I found myself making millions in royalties. The steady stream of recurring
income provided financial stability and allowed me to focus on delivering exceptional results for my clients.
I can't tell you how good it feels to received payout likes these every 90 days.
However, there was a caveat to my royalty system:
I would only provide unlimited updates and revisions as long as my promotion remained the control.
By tying the provision of unlimited updates to the success of my promotion, I ensured that clients had a vested interest in my continued success.
If my promotion lost its status as the control, clients would no longer receive unlimited updates for free, creating a powerful incentive for them to stick with me.
In essence, I had created a self-reinforcing cycle of success, where my innovative pricing model not only attracted clients but also kept them loyal in the long run.
By applying Warren Buffett's greatest lesson—building a moat—I was able to carve out a lucrative niche in the copywriting industry and achieve financial prosperity beyond my wildest dreams.
As Buffett himself once said, "The most important investment you can make is in yourself." And in my case, that investment paid off in spades.
