I'll never forget the times I discovered I was underselling myself.

I was paid $500 to write a direct mail promo, only to find out the client was paying their ad agency $5,000 for the same thing.

The second time was even more shocking.

 

I was being paid $200 a day to write copy for a publisher, essentially doing the same work for which guys from New York were receiving $25,000, plus royalties.

 

It's no wonder they were paying me $200 a day. They were getting a steal of a deal!

This is why people hire you and pay your current salary or rate. It's because they are getting more value from you for your time than you are being compensated for.

In other words, you're a deal, no different than getting a $100 bottle of wine for just $20. Clients will buy you by the case.

So it's no wonder that early in my career, I had publishers wanting me to sign exclusives with them for significantly less than what others were being paid.

Today, I'm going to share a transformative formula that will change how you perceive your resources.

Take your annual income and divide it by 48 weeks (allowing for some well-deserved breaks), and then by 35 hours per week. Because you shouldn't be working all that hard. Have you ever considered how much your time is really worth?

Let's say, for example, you're making $100K a year. That comes to roughly $2,000 a week. When you break that down by the hour, it amounts to just $59. Not bad, but that is just your work time.

But what is your personal time worth? $59 an hour? $100 an hour? $500 an hour?

Only you can answer that question.

The fact is, your personal time is your most valuable time of all; it is FREEDOM to do what you want, when you want.

Especially when you become indispensable in your current role.

 

When I say indispensable, I mean it.

You are the one they pile the work on because they know you'll get it done.

 

As a result, over time, your hourly rate will soar, potentially doubling or tripling. But again, what about your personal time?

 

That could be worth three, five, or even ten times more than your work hours.

 

For example, would you spend an hour driving to return an item you paid $5 for? If you use your work calculator, it would cost you $59 in time to get there.

 

But you're not on work time; you're on personal time. Follow me?

As a freelancer, I discovered long ago that the value of my time wasn't what I was paid at work, but the value of my free time.

Let me explain.

You see, I wasn't making just $100,000 a year; I was making $500,000. So when I broke it down by weeks and hours, my hourly rate was around $300. And I was writing all their winners!

Since they were making millions of dollars thanks to my efforts, I was a steal of a deal.

Here's what they never knew: I wasn't working 35 hours a week. I had everything dialed in so that I was maybe—and I say maybe—working three to four hours a day, 20 hours a week at most.

That brought my hourly rate to $500.

But that was just how I valued my work time.

On the other hand, my FREE time was worth double: $1,000.

That's why I charge $1,000 for my coaching and consultation—because that's the value I offer when I exchange my personal time for coaching.

This brings me to you and the question you must ask yourself—what are you worth?

So let me ask you a few questions:

• What are you really worth when you exchange your FREE time for money?
• Are you selling yourself short?
• Are you serious about building your wealth?
