Procrastination is the biggest enemy standing in the way of achieving your copywriting goals.
If you don’t tackle this head-on, you will continue to stare at a blank screen, wondering where your next client will come from or how you will transition from the headline to the call to action.
So, what are you waiting for?
Every single person who wants to make a career out of copywriting aims to earn $100k, $200k,
or even as much as $500K a year.
But despite what you may read on Twitter or the internet, only a few people make it.
It’s not that they are not talented enough, educated enough, or lack the skills.
The reason comes down to one
thing: motivation.
They start strong and lose it over time. Some lose it in weeks... others in months. They fall into a comfort zone.
I've been there too.
I know what it feels like to doubt yourself, to question whether you have what it takes to succeed. There were moments when I faced rejection after rejection, wondering if I was on the right path.
In fact there was one big time marketing director in San Francisco that told everyone in a copywriting group to avoid me!
But I refused to let that
setback define me.
That wasn't the only one. There were dozens if not hundreds of marketing directors and publishers that wouldn't return my calls after I sent them my samples. A few even stole my ideas and did not hire me.
One even allowed another copywriting to rip off my work and then refused to pay me royalties!
I want to share my personal struggles with you because I believe it's important to know that success doesn't come without challenges. It's not an easy journey, but it's a worthwhile one.
That's why it's so important to keep your internal fire from turning into procrastination.
Sadly, it happens to many copywriters.
Rejected they find themselves staring at a blank screen, wondering when the money will come rolling in.
They are unable to take the necessary steps to keep moving onward and upward toward their goals.
If my letter has arrived while you’re questioning your motivation, I hope it pumps you up to take action because you are only a few steps away from achieving the success you want and deserve.
I can tell you this from personal experience.
When I graduated from college and couldn’t find a job, I created my own job. My first client was a restaurant where I served as their advertising manager. Two days later, I became the marketing director for a
wood stove company.
It was through these experiences that I realized the power of taking initiative and being
proactive in the copywriting field.
From there, I started writing copy and pitching myself to publishing companies across the country. One strategy that proved effective was crafting tailored proposals that showcased my unique skills and understanding of each company's target
audience.
By personalizing my approach, I was able to stand out from the competition and secure high-paying
projects.
Sure, there were times when I lost motivation and doubted myself, but I developed strategies to overcome those hurdles. Like when my
calls were not returned or when people tried to rip me off.
One technique I found useful was breaking down my big goals into smaller, manageable tasks. By focusing on bite-sized objectives, I maintained a sense of progress and momentum, which ultimately fueled my motivation to keep going.
But don't just take my word for it.
Here's what some of my previous mentees have to say about the effectiveness and value of my mentoring program:
Financial copywriter Sean Slattery wrote me to
say,
"I have a special term for this rare kind of copywriting knowledge: "Pure Gold". I mean, where else can you shorten your
copywriting learning curve by years (maybe even decades), by tapping into Doug D'Anna's 30-plus years of control-writing experience? To my knowledge, nowhere else. My highest recommendation."
Vitaly Grinblat, a copywriter for Money Map Press was equally
impressed,
"I've been at this for a long time. And I have to say that Doug's coaching dwarfs just about every other training I've seen. Doug's
techniques have become my go-to resource for writing hard-hitting copy. And I write for the best in the industry. Anyone who wants to hone their chops and learn real secrets of creating world-class copy should jump on this opportunity."
Veteran financial copywriter
Kevin Dawson would agree…
“Doug’s secrets will revolutionize your copy skills. They will make your confidence and income soar while you
shatter the 6-figure barrier, and take your place within the small group of the A-list copywriters.”
If you are feeling stuck and procrastinating your next step, here's a specific strategy I suggest:
Set aside dedicated time each day for client development
Set aside a dedicated time each day for focused writing.
Create a distraction-free environment,
Set clear objectives for what you want to accomplish, and commit to working on your projects during that designated time.
By establishing a consistent routine and eliminating distractions, you'll find it easier to stay motivated and make significant progress in your copywriting career.
You will be able to brush off the set backs and keep moving toward accomplishing your goals.
If you are at a down-in-the-dumps point in your career, this is the time to reignite your motivation because
your next phone call or email may be the one that turns things around.
I’m living proof.
Look...
I turned a $500 sales letter into a $25,000 copywriting fee and earned millions of
dollars in royalties because I knew the opportunities were out there, and all I had to do was go get them.
I also understand how easy it
is to lose motivation. You start strong and then either get comfortable or distracted, with no one around to push you and inspire you to be better.
That’s where I can help.
I’ve achieved what you are striving for:
Establishing yourself as a top
copywriter,
Landing big jobs, and
Earning millions of dollars in royalties.
Eliminating procrastination and daydreaming and replacing them with motivation and action is the first step.
This is what pushed me to pursue and secure the big clients and the money
that came with it.
If you are stuck and procrastinating your next step, here's what I suggest:
Stop staring at a blank screen and make things happen.
Make a call.
Write a new sales letter.
Return a phone call.
You didn't get into copywriting to simply hope for
some money.
You did it to make big money!
I’m hoping that this letter today helps ignite the fire in you.
