As a seasoned copywriter with over 38 years of experience, I've seen the evolution of copywriting from sales letters to direct mail packages to email marketing and beyond.
And with each transition, I've had to adapt my writing style to keep up with the changing times.
One of the biggest challenges I faced when transitioning to online writing was the fact that I was no longer competing in a mailbox with just a handful of
other items. Instead, I was now competing in an inbox with hundreds of other emails.
This meant that I had to take my writing to the next level in order to capture and hold the reader's attention.
That's when I developed my "one click, one buy mercenary mentality."
The idea behind this mentality is simple: GET THE MONEY!
As such, you want to make it as easy as possible for the reader to take
action. You don't want to give them multiple options or distractions that will take them away from the main goal of the sales message.
To achieve this, I started using a strategy where I would have just one link in my promotions - at the very end.
The reason for this was simple:
I didn't
want the reader to click away from the page before they had a chance to read the entire sales message. By having just one link at the end, I was able to keep them walking down the yellow brick road to get to the money.
But it wasn't just about having one
link.
It was also about the messaging leading up to that link. I made sure that the messaging was clear, concise, and compelling. I used power words and trigger words to tap into the reader's emotions and persuade them to take
action.
I also made sure that the call to action was crystal clear. I didn't want the reader to have to think or guess about what I wanted them to do. Instead, I spelled it out for them in no uncertain terms.
Another key factor in developing a one click, one buy mentality is testing.
I constantly tested different messaging and strategies to see what worked best. I would try different headlines, different calls to action, and different formats to see what resonated with my audience.
Over time, I was able to refine my approach and
develop a system that consistently generated results. I was able to get readers to take action with just one click, leading to increased conversions and higher profits.
If you are serious about developing your
copywriting skills, you too must develop a "one click, one buy" mercenary mentality.
Because when it comes to online sales, that is the name of the game--GET THE MONEY!
By focusing on clear messaging, a crystal-clear call to action, and constant testing, you can create a system that consistently generates results and takes your copywriting to the next level too.
All good wishes,
