How to Write With Authority
and get your readers to do a swan dive to the order form
As a veteran copywriter who has generated over $100 million selling investing newsletters and trading advisories, I have learned that writing with authority is the
master key to success in this field.
Let me explain why…
When you're selling a financial advisory service, your goal is to persuade potential subscribers that your investment advice is the best in the market.
As a "ghost writer" behind the emails, landing pages, and video sales
letters, I would take on the persona of an investment leader.
The voice of the editor should be authoritative and convincing beyond doubt that their financial advice is correct.
It all begins with an authoritative headline. These greed-based headlines from my vault do just that.
Canadian Oil Stock to Hit $13 By Friday: Buy Now
Backroom Drug Deal to Deliver Your Next Double--with or without you
A Rare Opportunity to Turn $1,000 into $200,000
The $35 Billion Sure Thing

Technology Stocks, Buy Now
As you can see, they all make bold curiosity, greed-driven statements that demand you find out more.
To maintain the editor's authority in the copy, every claim made must be backed up by social proof that the stock the editor is recommending has the sales, earnings, and market share to generate profits over the long or
short term.
The arguments need to be bulletproof, and every statement should be supported by evidence that leaves no room for doubt.
And that’s just the half of it.
Your authority must be able to convince potential subscribers that the editor’s financial advice is not just
good but essential--RIGHT NOW.
This is where the power of writing with authority comes in.
Your writing must make readers feel that they are in the hands of an expert, someone who knows what they're talking about and has the track record to prove it.
By writing with authority, you can
persuade readers to take action and subscribe to your service.
Of course, one of the challenges of selling financial advice, or any information product for that matter, is that you can't give away too much information without subscribers paying for it.
To sell the subscription, you must tell readers everything about the opportunity except the name of
the stock. Or as my mentor told me long ago, “We are here to tease them, not teach them.”
They would only get the name of "the secret stock that would make them rich" after they paid.
This means that your writing must be compelling enough to convince readers that they need to know the name of the stock and that the only way to get it is by subscribing
to the editor's service.
If you have followed me and are familiar with my “cookie and the dog” methodology, you know that I want to write in a way that dogs salivates for a cookie.
I want my readers to come running for the "cookie of stock advice" that hides behind the pay wall. In fact I even visualize them like dogs, paws on the plastic
glass paywall, barking to get their mouths on the delicious stock advice that is waiting for them.
The bottom line here is this:
Writing with authority is the key to success in the field of copywriting no matter what you are selling. Every claim must be backed up by social proof and evidence that leaves no room for
doubt.
Remember-- it's not just about presenting the facts.
It's also about writing in a way that convinces readers that they will miss out on a great opportunity if they don't subscribe.
By writing with authority, you can persuade readers to take action and subscribe to your service, not
matter what it is, and that's the ultimate goal of copywriting.
